Mrs Apelu

On Wednesday a visiting teacher Mrs Apelu from Tamaki college came to visit LS2 to see what they do. Zahra, Viva, and I created a summary about the video that tells us about rubbish.  In our summary it shows the 20 words we thought that was important and 6 words that we thought was very important then we wrote a summary with those 6 words in it. We showed Mrs Apelu how we work and collaborate. Mrs Apelu came and looked at us work and she told us that we worked really good and she had a great time.

Kilikiti

This week is Samoan Language week we had the two choices to pick out of the traditional tattoo or a really popular sport which is Kilikiti. I made a DLO on this and wrote the history of it and how the equipment was made which is really interesting. I didn't know that it was fully introduced by the missionaries in the 19 century I think that my family can play this or maybe can be taught.

Samoan language week - Main ideas

Since it is Samoan Language Week, Mrs Anderson created some activities about Samoa's traditions/culture. For this activity, we listened to a speech by Mata'afa Elia Autagavaia talking about how we should preserve the old traditions of the Samoan dances, and to tell the next generation how to correctly dance in Samoa.  

Main Idea

In reading we watched a you tube clip and listed some important ideas and sorted it out into groups such as "3 vital ideas, 4 very important ideas and important ideas". We did this as one whole group and negotiated on where to put the ideas in.  I think these are all in the correct place and have learnt lots about Recycling and how Auckland can make a difference. 

Summary

In reading we were focusing on how to summarize. A summary is like a shorter version of a text. We read an article called, "Eco Rangers Save The Planet". After reading parts of the text, we wrote down 20 important words from the text, then we lowered it down to 6, then created a short summary using them. 

Making connection

LS2 has read a book named When the wind blows. After we read that book we had to Make a connection. Making a connection is Text to text, text to world, and text to self. Jaydon and I wrote our own.  

Special or pest

For the past few weeks for reading we have been focusing on pigeons if they were special or pest. Victoria, Manu, Mishaan, Nesi, Tiare and I all worked collaboratively to get our reading follow up done and dusted. For this task we have been using this site named multimodel. Multimodel is a website which is same as google slides but it is much easier to use. Pigeons can be special but to other they are pest. To me pigeons are special because they saved a lot of men and pigeons sent messages from this side to the other side without getting shot or killed by.  On our google slides it tells you a lot about pigeons. At the end of the slide there is a film of us students saying our opinions. 

Fantastic Facts Challenge: Kenny Baker

Today I completed a reading Can do about the British actor: Kenny Baker. Kenny was a actor on some incredible movies. I chose Kenny Baker to be my topic because he just past away on august 13, 2016. I found out a lot of information about Kenny baker but I really wanted to know what age was he when he became an actress. It was very interesting reading information or facts about Kenny Baker.

Current events - Homeless people

Today for reading we did current events. The current events were about families who are supporting the homeless people. Before we started I watched a video and read a article. After I read the article I got started on the questions. Friday 17th of June 2016 families gathered together in suburban car park with their cars and mattresses.  

Smog in China

This week in reading we had to make a connection with the article. This is an article about the smog in China. In China a lot of people use face mask to avoid the smog and the bad air. Next to the article I had typed some things that reminded me of something or something in the world or something that I read.  

Giant Pandas

For reading we were synthesizing on Giant pandas. Synthesizing means we get what we already know then read new information or new facts but when we write it down we have to put it in our own words and then after that we have to synthesize it. Here is a slide show of Giant pandas. Giant Pandas are endangered species. At first I didn't know that giant pandas were endangered species and I didn't really care about giant pandas but now I do.   

Different kinds of family tree's

This is my family tree combining it with the Chinese family tree. In reading we read a book called Finding China. This book was about a girl called Natalie who went to China because her dad's family asked to go China and school there. The school that Natalie went to was Ping - He school it was a boarding school. Natalie was really happy because she had a friend that could speak English and Natalie's friend could've taught her how to speak in Chinese. Natalie didn't feel lonely anymore.

This week we have been comparing Ping-He school with Panmure bridge school. We had to include that Ping-He is a boarding school and how they have dorm moms. We had to include the difference's and the thing that are the same. We found out that in Ping-He school for PE you have to do 100 Sit up's 100 Push up's and they had to run around there track 50 times. 

ballad poem

This is what my group has done. For reading we had to watch this little poem while someone is explaining it to us like a story. This poem was about Charlotte Anne when she broke the rules in 1870's. Charlotte Anne didn't care what people say and how people will treat her. I found out that back then women weren't allowed to wear jeans or do what men did. It was very interesting.

synthesizing - gorilla's

Today in reading we were synthesizing. Synthesizing means to use what we know and then look at it in a different way. Charlize and I were both working together on this reading task. I learnt that gorilla's have no natural enemies and the are endanger.  Today I really enjoyed synthesizing.

Biopic Poster

This is one of my reading biopic poster. Today i read something little about George Washington. George Washington was the first president in the united states. This reading task was great and awesome. 

Synthesizing

 Today I created a cover about Albert Einstein. In reading I was synthesizing. Synthesizing means to take what we know and find out new information and look at it in a different way. Albert Einstein was one of the most famous scientist in the world. I found out that Albert Einstein didn't like school and what he liked was music and science. The new information that I found out helped me think about what the cover will look like, what the title might look like and what background would match their achievements.    

Poem for Remembrance Day - ANZAC

Our Learning intention was to find the main idea of a poem. The main idea for this poem was about the soldiers that fought for our country. This poem was about a child who was asking about ANZAC day and the mum was worried for him. This poem was very interesting to me. What I found interesting was that not much soldiers returned home to their families.

Story scavenger hunt

This is my reading Can Do. My reading Can Do is about Super slide or Dangerous slide. What I found interesting was that at china they just built the slide so that the customers pay to go down the slide.

Current event - one point of view

This is my current event DLO. My role was the bus driver and my partner Jorja was the bus driver's boss. I as the bus driver had to write something to my boss. When Jorja and I were working together it took a long time to figure out what to write. Jorja and I were trying to type something but it took time. Jorja and I were working very well with each other. When we finished our DLO we had to put it up on our blog and we did. What I didn't know was bus driver's go on strike. Jorja and I really enjoyed this current event.
