Mrs Apelu

On Wednesday a visiting teacher Mrs Apelu from Tamaki college came to visit LS2 to see what they do. Zahra, Viva, and I created a summary about the video that tells us about rubbish.  In our summary it shows the 20 words we thought that was important and 6 words that we thought was very important then we wrote a summary with those 6 words in it. We showed Mrs Apelu how we work and collaborate. Mrs Apelu came and looked at us work and she told us that we worked really good and she had a great time.

Plastic free July

This week the Tamaki wrap people came to Panmure Bridge School and taught us about rubbish. Mishaan and I worked together to make a DLO about what we learnt. I learnt that in one week New Zealand produces rubbish that can fill up a rugby field.

Legend of the Seven sisters

Javeylor and I had completed our task for Matariki. Well Did you know that the seven stars are actually sisters. But not all seven are sisters. In this DLO we had included a reference. This task is part of our inquiry and we had lots of fun making this DLO.

How do Native American people celebrate winter solstice?

Today we have been learning new things about Matariki. Javeylor and I chose to start with this first because we wanted to know what other countries do to celebrate winter solstice. We chose to find out about the Native Americans because we wanted to know what they do. Native American people make prayer sticks four days before the winter solstice. Javeylor and I worked really hard.

Dance

Today Javeylor and I had our last practice for dance. In our video Javeylor and I did great but we needed to work on a few things. We needed to be more confident because we kept on laughing. We also needed to sharpen up our moves. Javeylor and I still had fun.

Dance Evaluation

This is my dance evaluation with Javeylor. This shows what we have done good and what we needed to work on. We had heaps of fun doing dance.

How long does it take for rubbish to biodegrade?

This graph shows how long it takes rubbish to biodegrade. Rubbish takes longer to biodegrade then what people think. Savelina and I found a lots of information about rubbish.

What can my family do to stop food waste?

What can my family do to stop food waste?
My family needs to use grocery bags instead of plastic bags because plastic bags can't get recycled unless you go to your local supermarket and look a round bin with a small hole which is for you plastic bags.

This is about what my family can do to stop food waste. You should think about what your family needs to do to stop food waste.

Dance

Today at dance Mishaan and I were working on our mirror dance. Mishaan and I needed to work on sharpening our moves. But we were actually good today. Then we had to record Shakaia, Brooklyn, and Savelina. When we were recording them they also needed to sharpen their moves as well. Our moves start of slow and then fast. I really had fun today.

Black out day

Today Panmure Bridge School had so much fun. Everyone wore black to support the All Blacks and only a few people wore Red to support the lions. First the whole school had to go to the hall for assembly. During assembly the kapahaka boys performed the All Blacks haka. Then we all went to the field and stood on the letters to make ALL BLACKS. After that we all stood around the court to pass around the ball. Everyone had fun doing all these activities. Thank you Mr O for organizing this.

Poetry

This week we have been looking at poems. I learned more about metaphors and similes. A simile and a metaphor is a bit similar to each other but a simile uses the words 'as' or 'like' to compare things. A metaphor is comparing to things without the words 'as or 'like.

Dance

Today in dance we worked on our geometrical dance. We got reminded that we had to be in sync with the music meaning in time and the different types of music that will suit our dance. We had to think about the tempo which is the speed and the beat of the music. It was quite tricky for our group but we managed to get some moves that we made up into a creative way. We compared and contrasting with two different genres such as ballet music and rock music.

Kilikiti

This week is Samoan Language week we had the two choices to pick out of the traditional tattoo or a really popular sport which is Kilikiti. I made a DLO on this and wrote the history of it and how the equipment was made which is really interesting. I didn't know that it was fully introduced by the missionaries in the 19 century I think that my family can play this or maybe can be taught.

Samoan language week - Main ideas

Since it is Samoan Language Week, Mrs Anderson created some activities about Samoa's traditions/culture. For this activity, we listened to a speech by Mata'afa Elia Autagavaia talking about how we should preserve the old traditions of the Samoan dances, and to tell the next generation how to correctly dance in Samoa.

Graphics

Today at tech the year 8's had their new session of graphics with Mrs Ferguson. Today we did a DLO about ourselves, next we had to look for all different kinds of clocks. We were looking for different types of clocks because this term we are making a clock that looks like something else. We are going to make our own looking clock. The year 8's had fun going to their new session of graphics.

Main Idea

In reading we watched a you tube clip and listed some important ideas and sorted it out into groups such as "3 vital ideas, 4 very important ideas and important ideas". We did this as one whole group and negotiated on where to put the ideas in.  I think these are all in the correct place and have learnt lots about Recycling and how Auckland can make a difference.

E-ako maths

Today I did e-ako maths. For e-ako maths I had mixed subjects. I had to solve out the problem. I used addition, and division to solve my problems more easier. E-ako is the best site to learn your maths because its a much fun way to learn.

World of Maths

Yesterday LS2 and LS1 went to the hall after lunch for World of maths. We were all put into groups so that we can work together and help each other out. Alice, Nazella, Sakina, Mishaan, and I worked collaboratively to solve the problem. Which way home was my favorite because all worked together and we used addition because our instructions were to add all the numbers. I had so much fun. Thank you Charles.

Similes

In writing I had to make a DLO based on Similes. A simile compares two things using the words 'like' or 'as'.  In my DLO you will see what a simile is and some other examples of a simile. For example she is as quiet as a mouse or that is good as gold, these are all examples of what a simile looks like. I have also added in images to give examples.

France has banned extremely thin models.

France has banned extremely thin models. This is my DLO summarizing the information I read, it also includes me and Nazella's opinion about the ban. I think this is a great opportunity for the models to live their own life.

Chocolate hedgehogs

Today at tech we made chocolate hedgehogs. We used a packet of plain biscuits, peanuts, melted chocolate, and 100g of butter. Although it looked very different to what we usually make, it was delicious. In the end, we put our melted chocolate on top of our chocolate hedgehog and refrigerated it for 5-10 minutes.

Dance

Today LS2 had their first session of dance with Mrs Anderson. First we watched a couple of videos about warming up. Before you get ready to dance you need to get your blood muscles running. To get your blood muscles running you need to do warm ups and stretches. We all had to find a space to have a practice. After that Javeylor and I worked together to make up our own warm up routine. Javeylor and I were really excited because we knew that it was going to be fun. After we drew our warm up exercises we had to show another group. Javeylor and I were groups with Zahra, Sa kae, and Jorja. They showed us their warm up routine first. It was really interesting but all they needed to work on was their Confidence. Now it was our turn we showed them our warm up routine. Javeylor and I needed to work on our confidence as well. We all had so much fun even Mrs Anderson.

Summary

In reading we were focusing on how to summarize. A summary is like a shorter version of a text. We read an article called, "Eco Rangers Save The Planet". After reading parts of the text, we wrote down 20 important words from the text, then we lowered it down to 6, then created a short summary using them.

Communism and Socialism are words from the book When the Wind Blows. Jay-don and I worked together to find out the meaning of Communism and Socialism.

Making connection

LS2 has read a book named When the wind blows. After we read that book we had to Make a connection. Making a connection is Text to text, text to world, and text to self. Jaydon and I wrote our own.

Kokako infographic

For camp we went to the kokako lodge and now Im going to be showing you a infographic about the kokako bird. A infographic has four parts to it. Diet, habitat, predators, and appearance. Also I have put down three facts about the kokako bird. One fact is to protect their territories kokako birds sing.

Mince and cheese filling

Today for tech we made mince and cheese filling for our pie. In order to make our filling we need these ingredients mince, soya sauce, water, corn flower, beef stock, onion, and oil. First you need to dice up you onion. Next you need to get 200ml of hot water and tip it into our half a cup of corn flour and mix it together. After that get another 200ml of hot water and get beef stock and mix it together in that you should add soya sauce. When you have mixed everything together get your pan and measure 1 tablespoon of oil into your pan. Place your diced up onions into your pan and fry them for a couple of seconds then add your mince into the pan. Now mix them all together now add little by little of your beef stock. Now there is only little bit of beef stock then you tip it all into the pan and carry on mixing it together. With you corn flour water add tiny spoons into your pan to make it more thicker. Now were done using the beef stock and the corn flour water. Turn the oven off and tip the filling into a container until you make your pastry for the pie. I can´t wait till next week.

We were lucky enough to go down to Riverside sports to play tennis and futsal. We have been learning about futsal for quite a bit time but have never played tennis. Nevile was our instructor for tennis. He is very experienced because he has been teaching in America. We learnt to easy words. "Hit and bounce" In Futsal we just had a full on game. For futsal my group won both games. I was really happy but well done to everyone. Thank you Martin and Nevile.

Scary flying kiwi...

As I sprinted up and down the slippery, rocky hill my heart beat faster than a cheetah. Aaaah! It’s my turn. I ran to the instructor, put on my harness and tightened it up. I checked my harness if it was stable more than 100 times.
"Kiwi are you ready?"
"YES I AM!"
I shut my eyes and prayed, that’s how frightened I was!

I was dragged up into the air like a plane taking off. I screamed at the top of my lungs. WOW! I was flying just like a bird. I did some bird positions. As Ms Kirkpatrick and Mrs Anderson came, they asked me to sing Rattlin Bog while I was up in the air. I started singing. I had two goes because they said I didn’t look that happy the first time. But on my second go I became more happy.

At the end of the day I was exhausted. I really had fun with the flying kiwi. I wanted to go for a sleep but we needed to do more things. Camp was really enjoyable. I honestly want to go back.

Last week the year 7's and 8's went on camp to Kokako Lodge. This recount is about the flying kiwi. The flying kiwi was really scary that is why my title is the scary flying kiwi. I hope you enjoyed reading my recount. This was a 5 minute recount about my favourite thing that I did.

Decimal numbers

We had maths for the middle block. In Ms Kirkpatrick's group we were learning about decimals. We had eight questions to answer and if we got one wrong we had to stay on the mat and do another eight. After we had decimal questions with Ms Kirkpatrick we all played a decimal number game. This game is really fun. Maybe you should play it too.

Agent of change

On the last slide of our DLO it shows what we were learning.  I was working with Magenta, Jorja, and Mishaan. We all worked collaboratively as a team.

Tech

Today at Tamaki College, the year eights had their cooking lesson. I worked with Sylis again. Last week we made mini quiches so today we made bigger ones. The ingredients we needed were onions, cream, cheese, bacon, flour, egg and butter. We diced the bacon and butter. We mixed the egg and cream together and the flour and butter together. Once we finished that we got our trays and put all our ingredients in. We waited for around 15 to 20 minutes. When it came out it smelled delicious. Thank you Ms Heka.

Omaru River

Our main inquiry focus today was about the Omaru River this river is located in East Auckland , Glen Innes. We were talking about the positive side affects and the negative side affects. To share our thinking we had to make a DLO about it and add some images to kind of back up our positives and negatives. The blockages in the river can make the water stagnant which can make the water dirty and polluted. Mishaan and I worked together.

Today we had our second session with Ms Heka doing food tech. Today we mad chicken kebabs and  potatoe salad. Mishaan and I worked together to make our chicken kebabs and potatoe salad. First we had to grab out equipment. Mishaan and I shared our jobs. Mishaan had to go and get the bowl of potatoes and spring onion and one egg. After Mishaan went to get the bowl I went to grab the bowl of chicken. Then we went to get everything else. Now Mishaan was up to frying the bacon and I was up to cutting up the chicken into little squares. Mishaan and I now mixed the chicken and the sauce together. Now we were up to the part when you put the chicken through the skewers.  In the oven it goes. Its back out. I really enjoyed having tech.

What is a river?

Mishaan and I worked together to create a DLO on what is a river. This was apart of our inquiry with Mrs Anderson. Mishaan and I has put labels on the Tamaki river map to show what we are talking about. We have tried our best to show a really cool DLO.

Water care

Last week we had our water care session with Sally. Mishaan and I were working together to get it done. Sally was teaching us about water care. We did cool experiments and all other things. On my DLO it will show you things that is important and what we have learnt. I really had fun with Sally. Thank you Sally for coming over to Panmure bridge school to teach us about water care.

The Water Cycle

This week for inquiry group B were with Mrs Anderson.  This DLO shows what Zane, Joshua v, Jericho, and I had learnt. We were learning about the water cycle which repeats every time it rains, hails, snow etc. When the sun shines the water evaporates and turns into clouds, then all the clouds become close and they stick together  like best friends. The clouds are now big and heavy with water, they fall back on to our homes in the form of rain, which is also known as precipitation. When precipitation is done it collects in the sea, ocean, lakes, and rivers and it rests till the next coming. I didn't know what the water cycle was about but now I learnt information about the water cycle that I didn't know.  I am so glad that I had this session with Mrs Anderson.

Tech

Today we went to Tamaki college for our first day at tech. We have our sessions at food tech with Ms Heka. At tech we made spaghetti, bacon, cheese, and pineapple in bread which looked like cupcakes. Before we even started to do anything first we had to get our trolley that had our medium bowl, wooden spoon, 2 measuring cups, 2 choping boards, and a pink and green knife. We needed these tools because the medium bowl was used to mix all our ingredients in, spoon to mix our ingredients, 1 measuring cup is for the cheese and the other measuring cup was for the pineapple. Javeylor and I helped each other dice up the bacon, we also helped each other dice up our pineapples. When it was time to place our bread in our muffin trays it was a little bit hard because it kept on breaking so then Ms Heka told us to push the middle of the bread. Now everything goes into the bread and now it is in the oven. We take it out with oven gloves to be safe. Yuum they are delicious. Thanks to Ms Heka for preparing this for the year 8's.

Kiwi sport - Futsal

Today we had futsal with Martin who is from Argentina. Futsal looks like soccer, well it's indoor soccer also known as futsal. Futsal is really fun. In futsal you wear flat shoes because it helps you keep control of the ball. Futsal is a little bit different because they have a smaller soccer ball which is heavy, have a smaller field because it is indoor soccer, goalie can only throw in the ball, and it's only a 40 minute game. First we played warm up games. Our first warm up game was flag tag, after that we played dribbling challenge, lastly we played the number game. I learnt that futsal is an indoor soccer game. I really enjoyed doing this with Martin and the LS2. Thank you Martin
